From 26 to 30 May 2025, an Evidence Gathering Training was held in Zanzibar as part of the ECOFISH Programme, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC).

This capacity-building workshop brought together fisheries officers, Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) personnel, and community representatives from across the region. The training focused on enhancing participants’ ability to detect, document, and report illegal fishing activities in a consistent and legally sound manner. Emphasis was placed on ensuring that enforcement actions are based on credible, verifiable, and well-documented evidence.

This initiative contributes to the broader goal of promoting sustainable and well-governed fisheries in the Eastern Africa, Southern Africa and Indian Ocean (EA-SA-IO) region.

A note of appreciation is extended to all participants, trainers, and partner institutions for their active engagement and contributions to the success of the training.
