E€OFISH ADDRESSES LACK OF FISHING DATA

Around 80% of the world's fishing catches lack adequate socio-economic and scientific information. The implementation of observer programs in the region addresses this gap.

- E€OFISH supports Mauritius to maximize and rationalize the use of the limited resources available for the development of the fisheries sector. The programme held a workshop to improve cooperation between agencies working in the field of fisheries monitoring, control and surveillance in Mauritius on November 15, 2023.  More info.
-  The E€OFISH programme contributed to the 5th General Assembly of the African Platform for Regional Institutions in Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Systems (APRIFAAS). This meeting was held from October 10 to 12, 2023 in Rabat, Morocco. More info
- E€OFISH supports IGAD in educating young people about the blue economy as a business opportunity. A training workshop was held in Juba from November 20 to 23, 2023 and brought together 2 young representatives from each IGAD Member State. More info.

E€OFISH keeps supporting Madagascar in setting up a system that will help gather wider information on the contribution of fisheries to the national economy. This system, known as BEFSA, was initiated  in Madagascar from 25  to 26 October 2023.
