E€OFISH STRENGTHENS THE COORDINATION OF SUSTAINABLE FISHERIES INITIATIVES

In brief: 
- The European Union engages in field work. The EU has conducted monitoring visits on the ground to ensure that the actions it promotes and funds have a real impact on the lives of people in the region. The EU team met with stakeholders of the Namibia Nature Foundation, ADPP Mozambique and WWF Kenya projects in February, and ActionAid Zambia and IGAD in March. See photos from the missions.

E€OFISH PROMOTES THE EFFICIENCY AND SUSTAINABILITY OF THE PRSP

The 11th meeting of the extended Regional Coordination Unit of the PRSP was held on February 1st and 2nd, 2023 in Reunion Island.

In brief: 
- The PRSP's 60th regional patrol sailed the seas of France/La Réunion, Mauritius and Seychelles from January 15 to 30, 2023. A ceremony to mark this milestone was organised on board the OSIRIS II in Reunion Island. Read press articles related to the event
-  E€OFISH facilitates the exchange of information for better monitoring, control and surveillance of fisheries. A consultation workshop to establish the framework for these exchanges was held on January 30th, 2023 in Réunion Island. Read the conceptual note of the workshop
- E€OFISH promotes the sustainability of the PRSP. A workshop to review the legal and formal instruments of the PRSP, with a view to institutionalising it, was held from March 13 to 17, 2023 in Zanzibar. See photos from the workshop.

LTA EQUIPS SIGNATORY COUNTRIES

The company that will provide the 6 boats for better monitoring, control and surveillance of fisheries in Lake Tanganyika was selected in February 2023. The equipment should be available to the countries in May 2023.

GLOBAL AGREEMENT ON THE PROTECTION AND SUSTAINABLE USE OF HIGH SEAS RESOURCES AND BIODIVERSITY

After two decades of discussions that began in 2004, the UN Member States agreed on an international treaty for the protection of the high seas, aimed at "ensuring the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity in international waters".
